What fear can teach us Reflection
We do not appreciate our fears because we do not take enough time to try to interpret them. Our fears make us think about the future. We must learn to live with our fears. If people took the time to study their fears then we would come to learn from them instead of letting them control our lives. We must think of fear as a story like Thompson explained. Fear is similar to a story in relation that we are the characters and fear is the thrilling plot, but we are also the author. We dictate what happens and how we react to our fears. However, a person must step back and be the readers and analyze the story. A person should read their fears and prepare for them. Fears tend to be blown out of proportion by the reader/teller even though the person comes to realize the little or no logic to the fear itself. Society tends to be carried away by the bigger things in life, but ignoring the smaller traits of life, the aspects that matter, the ones that determines our fate. The talk was very insightful. I enjoyed listening to the story Thompson gave about the sailors, her thoughts on fear, and how to you can benefit from it. The talk was very thought-provoking. In comparison to the novel The Catcher in the Rye, by J.D. Salinger, Holden is haunted by the fear of the future and growing up. The whole story centers on Holden trying to find someone to actually listen to him and explain adulthood to him even though it is not obvious throughout the novel. However, toward the end of the story Holden accepts his fear of change. Even though the reader will never know if he is telling the truth we are led to believe Holden is going to make some significant changes in his life, for the better.
